Today is strawberry day in St. Damian’s.
We put straw around the strawberries. To protect them from slugs and other insects. Belle and Ruby found a ripe strawberry when helping and shared it.
It was the best strawberry ever in the world. It was nicer than the strawberries in the shops.

On the 16th of May, 6th class went to visit Kilmainham gaol in Inchicore where they got to go inside and learn about the history of the jail. It started off by getting the bus from walkinstown road to Kilmainham. When we got there we were greeted by the tour guide who brought us into the jail and told us facts and stories about the jail like how Kilmainham gaol closed in 1924.
When we got in the jail all the walls and rooms looked old and dusty. We got to look into the rooms and they were a lot smaller than we expected, the rooms were about 9 feet long and 6 feet wide and some rooms had to fit up to 5 people! Some of the rooms had the peoples names that they held. We also got to look in the museum and have a look at some of the historical items like the lock that was broken when three people tried to escape and the uniform the guards were wearing and so much more.
It was really interesting and rich in history and if anyone has never gone I personally would recommend going. All and all the trip was one of the best tours we have gone on in 6th class.

On the 9th of May 6th class went to the spectacular Glasnevin cemetery. Where famous figures of Irish history were buried, such as Micheal Collins, Daniel O’Connell, Constance Countess Markievicz and numerous others.
When we got there we were welcomed by amazing landscape and detailed graves. 6th class were then greeted by an exceptionally nice Tour Guide who showed us the grave of the founder of the cemetery, Daniel O’Connell. We learned a lot about Daniel O’Connell, like how he died while traveling to Rome!
After the tour was over we had a bit of a bite to eat. We had time to look around the enormous graveyard, to find the rebellious Irish individuals who changed our future.
Finally we toured around the museum, it was very artistic and cool. We learned a lot about Glasnevin’s history.
Overall, the trip was mesmerizing and fun. We loved it and will remember all the fun facts and laughs.
